Together we can build a climate-friendly government!

The first chart below shows how the 308 seats in the House of Parliament are distributed now, giving us a Conservative minority government that has not acted on global warming.

Current seat distribution in the House of Commons

Chart: Current seat distribution in the House of Commons

34 seats currently held by the Conservatives were tight races in the 2006 general election.  If climate voters can work together to agree on an alternative candidate in these ridings, they can shift these seats over to the climate-friendly parties in the next election.

46 seats currently held by the Liberals, NDP, Green Party and Bloc Québécois were also tight races in the 2006 general election and subsequent by-elections.  We encourage voters in these ridings to rally behind these sitting MP's to ensure that they hold these seats.

The next chart shows how the 308 seats would shift in this election if the 34 close Conservative seats were simply taken by the party which placed second in the 2006 election, if the 46 other close seats were retained by the climate-friendly parties, and if vacant seats were taken by the parties that held them before.

Revised seat distribution if close second place finishers from 2006 replace sitting Conservatives in this election

We think the Liberal minority government resulting from this concerted grassroots effort would be well poised to work with the other climate-friendly parties (and concerned Conservative MPs) on development of effective climate policy

This is just an example; climate voters in each riding would decide which candidate is the best choice to replace sitting Conservative MPs, and those choices would determine the final distribution of seats.
